Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence,

something helpless that wants our love’

About Sue

I am an UKCP Accredited psychotherapist and counsellor, working in Brighton and online.

Over the years of my practice I have become deeply interested in what it is to be human, and the universal themes and experiences which connect us - how we are shaped in the pulls of love and loss; our capacity for story telling; our need for meaning making; our need to belong; our complimentary needs for intimacy and solitude; our relationship to lack, both internally and externally, and the intertwined hunger for more; our relationship with, and sometimes fight against, stillness and boredom; our pull towards growth and becoming.

Then there are the wonderfully unique aspects to each of us, in which our journey, pull and dance with each of these themes, and more, is shaped by us, our life, who we have become till now.

You might come to therapy in response to a specific life event, maybe feeling exhausted, stressed, confused, or torn about what you really want.

Time and again I see what troubles us, that which causes distress and pain, is often symptomatic of a life which doesn’t quite fit, and our contorted responses to it.

I see my expertise in holding the balance between healing the pain and difficulties held in these symptoms, and holding space for someone to be known in their possibilities, as their unique whole.

A therapeutic journey demands our full attention, both yours and mine, and asks how do you want to live from here? Can we trust that the work will offer a sense of aliveness as it guides you to step into living uniquely, as you?

I bring tenderness, listening deeply, everything is allowed, nothing is too messy. Together we build a therapeutic relationship in which you can feel safe enough to allow yourself to be truly known, and in doing so get to know yourself with more dignity, understanding and self acceptance.

I will guide you out of knots of thinking, encourage you to really know and feel your own history, and notice and bring understanding to your internal battles.

This work unlocks trapped feelings and energy. I passionately believe that the more we allow ourselves to know of the experiences that have shaped us, the freer we become from their unconscious pull to define us.

We start to make sense to ourselves - differently. We build our emotional muscle to hold feelings and hold ourself in those feelings. We trust noticing over fixing as the pathway to change.

Over and over in my work I witness the empowerment and enlivenment in the centring of knowing ourselves in our own lives. My clients start to feel enabled to bring more of themselves to their relationships, and to tune in, and reflect on their feelings as trustworthy guides to living in ways which feel truthful and authentic to them.

I am aware I have used a lot of words to introduce myself, and yet so much more is left unsaid. If your interest has been sparked though please get in touch for an exploratory phone call or session.

Bye for now.
